The resolution of Palestine was passed by the United Nations General Assembly with the demand that Israel's 'illegal presence' in the Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem should end.
124 countries voted in favor of the resolution drafted by Palestine . Similarly, 14 countries were against the proposal. 43 countries including Nepal remained neutral in the voting. Palestine is only a UN observer and cannot vote. Countries that voted against the resolution were the United States, Argentina, the Czech Republic, Fiji, Hungary, Israel, Malawi, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga and Tuvalu.
Among South Asian countries, while Nepal and India remained neutral, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka voted in favor of Palestine's proposal. Although the resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations is not binding, it will be symbolically created pressure on Israel, according to the international media.
The resolution was drafted after the UN International Court of Justice ruled that Israel had illegally occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza in July.
