In Nepal, there is not much practice of showing documentaries in halls. Let's also say that the market for documentary screening has not yet been established. However, some documentaries have found a way to show the hall.
Recently, director Rajan Kathet and Sunir Pandey's 'Dhorpatan' was screened at CDC for about a month. Currently, director Suvina Shrestha's documentary 'Devi' is showing in theatres.
This documentary, which contains the story of women who were victims of rape and sexual violence during the ten-year armed war, has been running since May 20. Director Suveena said that 'Devi' is being prepared for a special performance not only in the hall. According to him, there will be a special demonstration in Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Butwal, Biratnagar and other cities.
In this 80-minute long documentary, there is a battle fought by Devi Khadka for the justice of women who were subjected to violence during the war. This documentary was selected and screened at various international film festivals. Suveena, who switched to documentary direction through
journalism, bumped into Devi while reporting. 'After he handed over his diary to me, I felt the responsibility of making a documentary,' said Suvina.
