The first decision taken by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's cabinet meeting was to complete the construction of floodlights and parapets at the Kirtipur cricket ground within 300 days. But this decision could not be completed on time. On Monday, the Prime Minister called representatives of the Ministry of Urban Development and construction companies and asked for an explanation on the matter.
And asking about the negligence, weakness or the reason why the work could not be done on time, he instructed to complete the work within the next two months.
An agreement was signed with different contractor companies on February 19 and 22, respectively, to build floodlights and parapets. Kathmandu's BKOI-KCDC-BG JV signed a contract for 49 crore 25 lakh 67 thousand three hundred two rupees on the 19th for the construction of a parapit with a capacity of 10,000 seats in the field. Similarly, for the installation of 6 floodlights, the Vision-Eishwari Joint Venture of Lalitpur was contracted for 42 million 19 lakh 91 thousand 653 .
According to the construction company, now the financial progress of the stadium reconstruction is 50 percent and the physical progress is 65 percent and Financial progress towards floodlight has been 25 percent and physical progress has been 40 percent.
The government also expected the work to be completed on time as the work was done in three shifts even at night. Construction companies have pointed to design changes and rain as the main reasons for not completing work on time. "Though three hundred days have passed since the government's decision, only 66 days have passed since we signed the agreement." There is a difference between the government's decision and the time when we started the work," BKOI-KCDC-BG JV Project Director Bharat Giri said, "It takes time to complete the tender process and document process. What is seen now is the work done in 66 days. We're doing the last thing before we finish .'
Giri says that the work can be done if the rain does not affect it before the extension of time . The land should be studied, the condition of the soil is also checked. The laboratory report of the construction materials used should also come . It also takes time,' Giri added, 'We have to change the designs as per the need . The rain and our chard festivals have also slowed us down. Employees stayed on vacation during Fagupurnima, New Year, Labor Day etc.'
Saurabh Sah of Vision-Ishwari Joint Venture says that the work was stopped for some time due to the change in design. "We are preparing to replace the Indian company's flood light with a European company," he said, adding that the process has also been delayed. Now after the goods arrive, it won't take long to complete the work.
Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has been playing cricket on this ground by taking a lease with Tribhuvan University. After the current structure was built by India's Zee Television Network, Nepal has been holding an international competition on this ground for the first time in 1998. Since then, the national competition has been continuously organized in this field.
