The video sharing platform TikTok has launched a new 'Search Guide' aimed at providing Nepali users with official and up-to-date information during floods caused by the monsoon rains. Now, users searching for flood-related content on TikTok will see a banner encouraging them to verify information from reliable sources.
Through this 'Search Guide', users are given direct access to the Government of Nepal's National Disaster Information Portal 'Bipad', TikTok's Safety Center Resources, and the Tragic Event Support Guide. "This guide includes useful information on what constitutes natural disasters and personal losses, how to access mental health support, and how to responsibly share or report content related to such incidents," the press release states.
Firdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia at TikTok, said, "Accurate information is as important as any other form of assistance during times of crisis. That is why we have made reliable sources available right where the community searches for information."
