NASA's Artemis 2 astronauts have traveled farther from Earth than any human has ever traveled.
The Orion spacecraft has traveled its longest distance from Earth. Artemis 2 holds the record for the farthest human-carrying spacecraft to date.
According to NASA, the distance is 252,756 miles, or 46,771 kilometers. The previous record was set in 1970 when Apollo 13 traveled the farthest distance with humans.
The current mission to the moon began more than 50 years later. The Artemis 2 rocket took off from the Kennedy Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The mission began on April 1. The astronauts will not land on the moon's surface during this 10-day mission. They will orbit the moon.
