Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been targeting the infrastructure of American technology companies in West Asia. The IRGC has warned that the US and its 18 allies will now be 'legitimate military targets'.
It has intensified drone, missile and cyber attacks targeting Silicon Valley companies such as Nvidia, Dell, HP, Intel, Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft and Google.
The month-long US-Israeli-Iran war has brought the private sector into direct conflict, Reuters reported. Reuters reported that an attack on a building housing Amazon's cloud computing center in Bahrain was carried out on Tuesday. According to news published quoting Iranian state media, the Amazon cloud computing center in Bahrain was targeted in retaliation for the attack on Iran.
Similarly, there were reports that the data center of the American company Oracle, which has an office in Dubai, was also attacked. This has been denied by the Dubai government. Earlier in March, Amazon Web Services' data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were hit by drone attacks, causing regional service disruptions for some time.
These attacks have damaged digital infrastructure. When Amazon's services were disrupted, banking, payment systems and various online services were affected. The company's statement stated that 'structural damage, power supply disruptions and additional damage due to the activation of fire control systems' were reported.
A large industrial complex in Bahrain has caught fire after an Iranian attack and damage is being assessed, Reuters reported, citing local officials. Meanwhile, multinational industrial companies such as Bahraini aluminum company Alba and UAE-based Emirates Global Aluminum have also been targeted by Iranian attacks. Two people were slightly injured in these incidents.
There has been no official response from major Silicon Valley companies to the latest incidents. Media reports say that tens of thousands of US technology companies are working in Israel and other West Asian offices.
