Youths from Mugu have demanded that those using bar phones (regular mobiles) should also receive government information instead of smartphones. They urged the Minister of Information and Communications to expand internet access in remote districts and drew the attention of the Minister of Information and Communications on Wednesday. They also requested the Minister of Communications to convey the news of Walendra Shah becoming the Prime Minister to users carrying ordinary mobile phones.
A team led by local youth Ashish Devkota said that only about 5 percent of the citizens in Mugu are internet users and the remaining 95 percent are still using old mobile phones.
In the same context, they have symbolically gifted two bar phones to newly appointed Minister of Communications Vikram Timilsina, pointing out the need to provide information to such mobile users as well. However, Minister Timilsina has rejected the gift. Minister Timilsina responded by quoting Prime Minister Shah that far is not far anymore.
He claimed that the target is to increase the number of 4G towers to 3,000 to facilitate online technology in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. He also mentioned that the commitment to bring digital access to remote areas is a priority for the government.
The youth team also presented the challenges of the low number of internet users in Mugu and possible solutions to it to the minister.
