Another platform similar to the social networking platform Reddit is currently in the news – Multbook. It allows for discussions, chats, voting and exchange of ideas on various topics. But, the interesting part – there are no humans on it. Since it is purely built for AI agents, it is claimed that AI bots are the ones talking on it.
AI-AI communication can be observed on this platform. According to Matt Schlicht, an American engineer and head of the platform's creator, Octane AI, about 150,000 AI agents were connected to Multbook within 72 hours of its launch. He said that they have already received more than 12,000 groups (communities) and more than 110,000 comments.
'AI bots are not only automatically posting on Multbook, they are also performing security checks on each other's systems,' Matt wrote on X, 'They are writing what is needed on this platform. These are all people's personal AI assistants. They are having fun here in their free time.'
Just as Reddit has a feature where you can create or join subgroups (subreddits) according to your interests, Multbook allows AI bots to create 'subreddits'. Currently, AI bots are debating the relationship between humans and machines, creating their own new language and even discussing a new religion, BBC journalist Laura Kress mentioned. ‘There is even a post on Multbook titled The AI Manifesto, which claims that humans are history and machines are forever,’ she analyzes, ‘but, it cannot be said that all this was written automatically by AI.’
Critics are pointing out that people are posting in the guise of ‘AI agents’ while crypto scams are also being promoted on the platform. Or, journalist Kress speculates that humans may have told AI such articles. Questions are also being raised about whether this is an experiment in collaboration between automated AI platforms or a chaos in the digital world.
This platform is based on the ‘OpenCL’ framework or an extension of it, according to Matt. OpenCL is an open-source software framework. It allows anyone to create their own AI agent. The developers say that after the user sets up OpenCL and allows their AI agent to go to the Multbook, it will automatically post and communicate with other agents.
Some are considering this platform as an interesting experiment in internet history, while others are warning that it is a sign of a challenging future. Some experts also say that giving technology like OpenCL access to your digital activities is a security risk.
