Open AI has launched a new AI shopping tool. The tool aims to help people make purchases based on their preferences.

People have previously interacted with shopping on ChatGPT. And, the GPT-5 mini model has a special tool for shopping. Where users will get answers to questions about shopping.

According to information provided by Open AI on Monday, such answers will be given based on the details of websites that the company considers to be of high quality.

‘For example, a topic written by a customer on Reddit will be considered more trustworthy than paid marketing or a company’s product page,’ An Open AI representative told . The company has also clarified that it will not give priority to any particular website while ranking links.

ChatGPT said that this new tool will be different from the word interaction that users of ChatGPT are using. People will be able to give commands by pressing a dedicated ‘Shopping Research’ button in the chat interface. They will be able to give details about the material they are looking for.

For example, they can type, ‘I need a gift for my 5-year-old daughter. She is an art lover.’ Instead of answering immediately, the research tool will ask for more information in a question-and-answer style. In this process, possible questions such as budget, color selection, size of the material will be asked.

After receiving all the information, the tool will give a list of 10-15 similar materials. Then, users can give a prompt saying ‘Look for more such materials’ or ‘Don’t like’. The final list with revisions will be prepared based on the user’s prompt.

In the last few weeks, Open AI has been expanding its applications to attract users. A few weeks ago, a group chat feature was introduced in ChatGP. Similarly, a free version of the chatbot has been introduced for K-12 teachers in the US.

Competition in the shopping sector is increasing. Open AI and its competitor PopplexCity AI are bringing such shopping platforms targeting the customer’s purchasing process.

Open AI has also made some promises. For example, it will look at reviews scattered across the Internet and create new reviews, and link them to product pages or review sites. Similarly, conversations with this shopping feature will not be shared with merchants.

This tool will be different from other online shopping guides that buyers can use. It will not charge commissions based on clicks or affiliate links like those online.

Open AI has said that this new shopping tool will be very useful for getting information about electronics, beauty, household, garden, kitchen and outdoor items. It will provide sufficient information about the price and quality of the goods.

However, customers cannot trust it 100%, said Isha Fulford, who leads Open AI's shopping research team.

'Training a model to recognize objective, unpaid or real user reviews is a bit difficult. That's why it's impossible to get 100% accurate results,' she said.

'Most reviews, especially on Reddit, are trustworthy,' said Open AI researcher Manuka Trata, 'that's why we trained the model to focus on online sources with a lot of organic content.'

Users are urged to be cautious as there is still a risk of incorrect results on issues such as price and availability. Open AI also suggests its users to visit merchant sites for detailed and accurate information.
