Chinese mobile operators have put 235,000 5G base stations into operation in the first five months of 2025. Along with this, the number of base stations of 5G, the advanced technology of mobile data in China, has reached about 450,000, according to the data of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.
Chinese telecommunications service providers had installed more than 6 million LTE base stations by the end of 2024 . Currently, the number of 5G base stations has reached 35.3 percent of the total base stations in China, according to Joseph Waring, Asia editor for Mobile World Live.
China Mobile, the world's largest mobile operator based on the number of customers, plans to add 340,000 5G base stations this year. This will increase the number of 5G base stations to 2.8 million.
By last March, the number of 5G users in China had reached about 1.1 billion.
