Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) company, Dipsic, is secretly helping China's military and intelligence agencies to provide user data with US technology, US officials have alleged. According to Reuters news agency, it is also claimed that Dipsic is trying to import advanced semiconductor chips into China by setting up a 'shell company' in Southeast Asia to evade US sanctions on China.
This accusation of the American authorities has made a wave in the technology sector . In particular, Dipsic is said to be trying to acquire US chips through data centers in Southeast Asian countries . US officials have also accused the company of sharing its users' details and data with Beijing's surveillance apparatus. According to Chinese law, companies operating there must provide data when requested by the government.
American companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Google have allowed their customers to run Dipsik. This means that, if it is true that Dipsic provided details of US users to the Chinese government, it could raise privacy and other concerns . According to Reuters Some US lawmakers have also said that Dipsic will send US users' data to China in accordance with its privacy policy. They claimed that the data was sent through the 'backend system' of the Chinese government telecommunications company, China Mobile.
Recently, the progress made by Chinese companies in the development of AI has also been 'exaggerated' and it is estimated that those companies may be dependent on American technology in particular . It was widely discussed that the Dipsik app, which was released last January, is as powerful as American technology but at a lower cost than American technology. The US has not yet put Dipsic on any trade sanctions list .
Depsik claims that US officials are "gladly cooperating" with China's military and intelligence agencies. This collaboration is beyond the reach of Dipsic's open-source AI model, they say. America also claims that Deepsik has a large quantity of high-class H100 chips from the American company Nvidia . Export of these chips to China was banned from 2022. They allege that Dipsic is trying to evade export controls by setting up a shell company in Southeast Asia. However, Nvidia claims that Dipsic uses legitimately sourced H800 chips.
