Meta has also been added to the latest series of large technology companies investing in the nuclear energy sector. Meta, Facebook's parent company, has signed a 20-year contract with Constellation Energy to meet its artificial intelligence (AI) computing needs.

Along with this, the production capacity of Illinois-based Constellation Energy's nuclear energy center is also going to be expanded. Earlier, Microsoft also signed a power purchase agreement with Constellation.

After the agreement with Meta, Constellation's 'Clinton Clean Energy Center' will also be operational again. The center, which was going to be closed in 2017 after incurring more losses, was saved by the passage of the zero-emission credit program in the United States.

The company claims that the new contract will increase the production of the plant by 30 megawatts, retain the jobs of 1100 employees at the local level, and generate an annual revenue of 13.5 million US dollars. According to the news of AP, the company said that electricity is currently being supplied to about 800,000 American households from the Clinton plant.

Big tech companies are currently facing pressure to increase energy supplies and significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions, the big results needed for AI and data centers. While investments in small nuclear reactors are increasing, large companies are exploring the potential of nuclear energy for alternative energy .

According to the Financial Times, Amazon and Google signed a historic energy purchase agreement last year. Google had a deal with Cyrus Power Company and Amazon with X-Energy Reactor. Microsoft has signed a purchase agreement with Constellation Energy and the agreement will be implemented from 2028 and will be valid for a period of 20 years, Constellation Energy said. The plant will provide Microsoft with approximately 835 megawatts of carbon-free energy.
