The German government is considering a 10 percent tax on online platforms like Google and Facebook. Wolfram Weimer, the state minister of the Ministry of Culture, told the media about this. The move is likely to further complicate trade tensions with the Trump administration.

When German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is going to Washington soon for a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the proposal to impose taxes on American companies has come into discussion. However, no official announcement about the tour has been made.

Previously, US President Trump had announced that he would take strict measures against countries that impose electronic service charges on technology companies in his country.

State Minister Weimer has said that a legal proposal on a 10 percent tax on online platforms is being drafted and is being discussed with platform operators . He has also criticized those companies as 'clever to evade taxes'.

Earlier this year, Germany's ruling parties agreed to consider a digital services tax. However, recently it was not included in the list of priority projects of the coalition.
