Video sharing platform, Tiktok has launched 'Family Pairing' feature in Nepal. Through this feature, parents can link their teenager's TikTok account with their account. This will give them access to security options, according to Tiktok. Tiktok announced the launch of this feature at an event held in Kathmandu on Friday.
The company hopes that this will help in developing the culture of responsible and safe internet usage among family members. Accounts can be linked by going to TikTok's 'Settings and Privacy' menu and scanning a QR code to enable the Family Pairing feature. Once the account is connected, parents can change safety settings directly from their own mobile without touching their children's phone .
'The safety of our community is a top priority for TikTok, especially when it comes to teen users, the Family Pairing feature was launched as part of an effort to provide Nepali families with useful tools to encourage responsible digital behaviour,' said Firdous Motkin, South Asia Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for TikTok, 'As a platform registered in Nepal, we want our platform to be safe, positive and inclusive online for everyone We are also committed to working closely with the government of Nepal and related stakeholders to ensure the environment.'
Family Pairing has over 15 customizable features related to security, privacy and digital well-being . According to the company, parents can adjust it according to their children's Tiktok experience. "For example, it has features such as limiting daily screen time, blocking messaging and comments, making age-appropriate content visible, making accounts searchable or not, and controlling search settings," Tiktok's statement said.
This feature is claimed to not only protect teen users, but also encourage open dialogue between them and their parents about digital behavior. The company has said that this is an important step to create a safe and thoughtful internet environment for the coming generation. Tiktok has said that it will conduct a public awareness campaign in collaboration with Nepali celebrities and digital influencers to bring this feature across the country.
