Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan of Lalitpur Metropolitan City has said that they have intensified the use of information technology in public service delivery. He has also called upon the IT companies to cooperate with the aim of making Lalitpur the 'Silicon Valley of Nepal'.
On the occasion of the National ICT Day on Friday, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology awarded Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality with the 'National ICT Award (Public Sector-State/Local)' category. After receiving the award, Mayor Maharjan claimed that city service delivery has been improved in Lalitpur in recent years through the use of technology.
According to him, the metropolis has achieved success in the smart city concept through the use of technology in CCTV connection, greenery protection and traffic management. "We identified and fined up to 1 lakh rupees to those who broke the trees planted by us through CCTV," Maharjan said, "After that, Lalitpur is greener now."
He also said that through the recently implemented 'LMC Alert' system, citizens can call 1131 for free and get help within four minutes.
He claimed that long-term thinking has been adopted in technology infrastructure with the condition of providing service for 5 years in the complete implementation of Electronic Building Permit System (EBPS), intelligence traffic light connection and maintenance of information technology related services. "Nobody needs to come to the municipality to pass the map in Lalitpur," he said, "We are not trying to sever the relationship between the citizens and the government."
He said that since Lalitpur metropolis has been called the hub of education, now the goal is to make it the Silicon Valley of Nepal . "Like Morning Sow's Day, those who get ICT awards today are mostly from Lalitpur," he said, "that's why I didn't think it would be difficult to make Silicon Valley."
