In the cyber security training provided to the Deputy Secretary level directors of various government agencies, special emphasis has been placed on making the security of information technology systems the first priority. In a three-day training recently organized by the National Cyber Security Center, there was a detailed discussion on internationally recognized methods related to security of digital assets, cyber risk management and compliance with laws.
In the training on 'Governance, Risk Management and Compliance' or 'GRC' which was conducted from March 30 to April 1, cyber security expert Ravindra Anantaswamy gave the training. He mentioned that the GRC framework has imbibed the 'security first culture' and said that cyber security should be the most primary issue in government agencies .
Cyber security expert Ananthaswamy analyzed international frameworks and cyber security standards like NIST Cyber Security Framework 2.0, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPPA. He presented examples of how laws like GDPR, HIPAA are country or regional association specific but have global impact. Director Rajkumar Maharjan, who is also the spokesperson of
Cyber Security Center, said that such trainings are important for the effective management of cyber security challenges as well as enhancing the capacity of Nepalese government employees. "We believe that such trainings help to make government organizations safe in the digital age," he said, "The participants were of the opinion that such programs are helpful to be aware of the growing new cyber challenges and to manage such challenges." At the closing ceremony of the
training, Radhika Aryal, Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Anil Kumar Dutt, Director General of the Cyber Security Center, distributed certificates to the participants. In the
training, detailed information was shared about government digital system risk identification, security methods and cyber attack prevention measures. The participants suggested that such programs should be continued to secure the government system by institutionalizing the culture of cyber security as the first priority.
