When 'Depsic' was released three months ago, it was widely discussed that this AI platform was built at a lower cost and lower computing power than ChatGPT of the American company OpenAI. Since then, AI tools made in China with cheaper investment than Dipsic are being released one after the other.

Only on Monday, the Chinese company Baidu has released two new AI models. Baidu's Ernie 4.5 and Ernie X One models are designed to compete with Dipsik's R One model. According to the claims of the Chinese information technology company Baidu, these models are as powerful as Dipsic's R One and are manufactured at half the cost of the R One.

According to Global Times, Baidu is not alone in releasing new AI models. Earlier on March 6, Alibaba Cloud released an open-source model called Tongyi Qinyen QWQ-32B. Alibaba claims that it will provide the same performance as Dipsic in accounting, coding and general capabilities. Another big technology company Tencent released an AI model called Hunyuan Turbo S on February 27.

In China, the competition in AI technology among local companies is increasing. In this competition, along with big technology companies like Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, ByteDance, there is also a wave of new startups. Among these companies, especially China's "Six Tigers of AI" (the 6 largest AI companies) are Stepfan, Zipu AI, Minimax, Moonshot, 01. Competition between AI and Bychuwan is seen. These companies have been innovating from foundational models to consumer-centric applications.

Founded in Shanghai in 2023, Stepfun AI is regarded as the 'next dipsic' in audio and video generation.  Its Step-2 language model, built with more than a trillion parameters, is among the world's top models. The company is also doing research on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). StepFun has developed audio chat, text to speech, text to video models .

Likewise, another well-known Chinese AI company 'Zipu', established in Beijing in 2019, developed China's first self-trend large language model in 2022. Its chatbot app 'ChatGLM' has more than 20 million users. Zipu AI as a Chinese alternative to OpenAI  It has been taken . According to Reuters, last January, the company was blacklisted by the United States, making it impossible for Jeep to purchase any American products. Soon after, the Huafa Group under the Chinese government provided 500 million yuan (about 69 million dollars) investment to Zipu.

In China, startup companies like Deepsik, Manas and AI platforms have also succeeded in making their mark. America's   Constraints such as restrictions and the high cost of training foundational models are driving companies to be creative. Recently, the Chinese government and President Xi Jinping have been providing enough encouragement to the companies .

BBC technology journalist Tom Singleton has written an analytical report on how President Chin Fing, who was once tough on technology companies, is now being supportive again. According to him, last February in the American Oval Office, while the world was paying attention to the issue of technology billionaire Elon Musk standing next to Donald Trump and speaking, around the same time, President Chin Fing had a meeting with Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

In the meeting attended by the big businessmen of the Chinese technology industry. President Chin Fing requested them to "show their potential". Journalist Singleton's question is whether the Chinese government, which is looking for the help of technology companies to boost the Chinese economy, which has slowed down after the Covid epidemic, openly helps companies and start-ups. He cited the example of Huawei and Tik Tok, and he mentioned that when technology companies were seen with the Chinese government, they were in a lot of trouble due to doubts about data security and privacy.

"In the future, Chinese companies can achieve more advanced advances in AI due to the additional investment received from the government," journalist Singleton said, "At that time, many people may think that instead of paying attention to the Oval Office, they should have paid attention to the Great Hall of the People."
