When you open Google today, above the search bar, the Google logo is decorated with various figures related to science. Symbols of atoms, DNA helix, chemical test tubes, dinosaur skeletons and astronauts. On the occasion of International Women's Day 2025, Google has released such a doodle honoring the contribution of women in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

According to Google, through this year's doodle, women who have played a significant role in space exploration, made important discoveries in archeology, and researched in the fields of physics, chemistry and biology have been honored. "These achievements represent only a small fraction of women's contributions to science," Google wrote about the doodle. "They are contributing to the overall progress towards gender equality."

Google has expressed the intention that sufficient work can be done to remove the gap in the STEM sector, noting that women's participation is still weak. According to Google, female participation in the STEM field is currently only 29 percent globally. According to studies, when women's participation in STEM education is low, the society suffers a huge loss in innovation, inclusive development and gender equality .  However, as this number increases every year  Google's blog post mentions that women's access to science and technology is expanding.

The United Nations formally recognized March 8 as International Women's Day in 1975. This day has been a global campaign to honor women's initiatives, hard work and achievements and raise their voices in favor of gender equality.
