Athawali is being celebrated today, the main day of Gaura, the festival of Far Westerners. The main festival of Gaura, which started on Bhadra Krishna Panchami on Thursday, will be concluded today on the day of Durvashtami (Ashtami).

Acharya Ganesh Dutt, the writer, said that today, women who are fasting take the cows that were brought into the Gauraghar to the Gaurakhalo (courtyard) and worship them. In Athawali, there has been a tradition of worshiping Gauradevi by Birudas in Gourakhalo. 

It is customary to consider five types of grains as wheat, wheat, mas, guarauns and bananas. Today, the dubdhago (special type of thread) kept by mantra at Gauradevi will be worn by the fasting women. Fasting women eat only after wearing double thread .

In Gaura Khalo, there is a custom of worshiping Gaura by Biruda by singing Phag and Sagun (Athayawali) which are sung in Gaura collectively by the fasting women. After worshiping Gaura, the devotees worship the heads of their husbands, children and relatives with the same biruda as prasad. Acharya writer said that there has been a tradition of worshiping the head with the wish of long life, health and wealth.
