Kathmandu Reds spent the highest amount, 650,000 rupees, in the Nepal Volleyball League (NVL) auction. In the NVL auction held in Kathmandu on Sunday, Kathmandu Reds acquired 5 out of 7 players by bidding the maximum amount.
The NVL, organized by the Nepal Volleyball Association in collaboration with the Kedia Group, will be held in Kathmandu from August 28 to September 6. This is the first time a men's volleyball franchise league is being organized. Two editions of the women's franchise volleyball league have already been held.
There were 54 players in the 'A' category for the NVL. The participating franchise teams were required to select 4 players each from the 'A' category and 3 players each from the 'B' category. In the auction, there were 93 players in the 'B' category, and players from the 'A' category who were not bid on were re-auctioned in the 'B' category.
The base price for players in the 'A' category started at 100,000 rupees, with a maximum bid of 120,000 rupees. Similarly, the minimum price for 'B' category players was set at 50,000 rupees, with a maximum of 70,000 rupees. Each team was allowed to spend a maximum of 650,000 rupees.
Kathmandu Reds spent the entire 650,000 rupees in their purse to acquire 6 players. The team acquired libero Santosh Rai, outside hitter Santosh Bik, and Chiranjeevi Khadka by bidding the maximum 120,000 rupees for each. Among them, all 6 teams bid for Chiranjeevi. He was the only player to receive bids from all 6 teams.
Kathmandu Reds acquired Baldev Singh Dhami from the 'wish list' for 100,000 rupees. Kathmandu Reds, who acquired Santosh Rai, Santosh Bik, and Chiranjeevi through the 'lucky draw', were also fortunate in the 'B' category auction. After bidding the maximum 70,000 rupees, the team also acquired Pushkardhwaj Dhami and Jitbahadur Dhungel through the 'lucky draw'. Afterwards, the team picked up Dipesh Kunwar from the 'wish list' for 50,000 rupees.
