The Nepal Badminton Association under the Nepal Sports Federation is set to organize the 14th Pushpalal Memorial National Ranking Badminton Tournament this month of Saun.
The tournament, to be held from the 25th to the 30th of Saun at the co-organizer Yal Sports Academy in Gwarko, Lalitpur, will be sponsored by the badminton equipment manufacturer Li-Ning. A sponsorship agreement has been reached between the organizers and Li-Ning.
According to the association’s General Secretary Sunilman Shakya, the tournament will feature competitions in 15 categories: top 8 ranked men’s/women’s singles, men’s/women’s singles outside the top 8, open men’s/women’s doubles, U-11, U-15, and U-19 boys’/girls’ singles, open doubles above 35 years, and masters open doubles above 45 and 55 years.
About four hundred players from 60 districts and three departmental teams—Army, Police, and APF—will participate. It has been announced that Wajid Ali Chaudhry, head of the Development Committee of the Asian Badminton Confederation and president of the Pakistan Badminton Association, will be present during the tournament.
The tournament, with a total cost of approximately 4,105,200 rupees, will have a prize pool of 1,078,000 rupees. Players who win three consecutive editions of the tournament will receive a motorcycle or scooter. Previously, Prince Dahal won a motorcycle by winning three consecutive editions. In the ranking category, the winner will receive 50,000 rupees, the runner-up 35,000 rupees, and the third-place finisher 15,000 rupees. The organizers have stated that winners in all categories will receive cash prizes.
