Extep Nepal honored sisters Diya and Diksha Tamang, gold medalists at the 10th South Asian Karate Championship held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Saturday.
Extep Managing Director Ganesh Shrestha honored them with a gift hamper and certificate of appreciation at Extep’s showroom. The head coach of the national karate team, Kushal Shrestha, who led the team to historic medals in various international competitions, was also honored.
At the competition held from July 15–19, Diya won gold in the cadet women’s under-61 kg category, and Diksha won gold in the children’s under-35 kg category. Diya had also won silver at the ninth edition held in Sri Lanka. At the Thailand Open Karate Championship in Thailand, Diya won one bronze and Diksha won two bronze medals. Diya also won bronze at the international karate event held in Japan. Managing Director Shrestha said it was a matter of pride for Extep to be able to honor the medal winners.
Diya said that, due to her father’s encouragement, she started karate at a young age and, by participating in various international competitions, succeeded in winning medals. Diya’s father, who comes from a karate background, is Dawa, an ultra/trail runner.
