Namibian left-arm fast bowling all-rounder Ruben Trumpelmann will once again play for Lumbini Lions in the upcoming season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket. The Lions have announced that they have re-signed Trumpelmann for their NPL title defense campaign.
Last year, when the Lions won the NPL title, Trumpelmann was a key player. During that time, Trumpelmann played all 10 matches for the Lions and was named Player of the Final in the final against Sudurpaschim Royals. In the final, he took 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 2.1 overs. Trumpelmann dismissed Binod Bhandari and Sheldon Jackson in his first 2 overs.
Trumpelmann was chosen as Player of the Series in Lumbini Lions’ title run. He took 15 wickets at an economy rate of 6.72 and an average of 14.93, and scored 41 runs in 7 innings, remaining unbeaten in 4 of them. In the group stage match against Karnali Yaks, he scored an unbeaten 29 runs off just 14 balls, hitting 1 four and 3 sixes.
“We have started our title defense campaign by bringing Ruben Trumpelmann back to Lumbini Lions; renewing the contract with a player like him was just a formality. We want to continue the legacy, and as an experienced player, he understands the Lumbini Lions team very well. As a player established in associate cricket, he has also been able to adapt easily to Lumbini Lions. With him, we believe Lumbini Lions will reach new heights,” said Lions’ chief Ishwar GC in a press release.
Trumpelmann has also played in the UAE’s ILT20 League and Canada’s Global T20 League. Trumpelmann is currently representing Namibia in Cricket World Cup League 2, playing against the Netherlands and Nepal in the Netherlands. Trumpelmann has taken 77 wickets in 53 One Day Internationals and 54 wickets in 54 T20 Internationals for Namibia.
Champion Lumbini Lions had retained marquee player and captain Rohit Paudel, along with Sandeep Jora, Sher Malla, Dilip Nath, Tilakraj Bhandari, Dinesh Adhikari, and Abhisesh Gautam. Similarly, through the auction, Lumbini Lions acquired Asif Sheikh, Kishor Mahato, Akash Tripathi, Durgesh Gupta, Araniko Yadav, and Ajay Chauhan.
