Group 'A' consists of Iran, host Japan, Bangladesh, and India. In Hangzhou, India won gold, Chinese Taipei took silver, and Nepal and Iran won bronze. Nepal defeated Bangladesh 37–24 in its first match but lost to Iran 43–19 in the second. After Iran defeated Bangladesh 54–16 in Group 'B', both Iran and Nepal advanced to the semifinals. Nepal was limited to the bronze medal after losing to India 61–17 in the semifinals. Nevertheless, Nepal succeeded in winning its first team bronze medal at the Asian Games.
This time, the Japanese Asian Games will also feature the participation of the men's kabaddi team. According to the draw, Group 'B' includes Nepal, Thailand, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Iran. The other Group 'A' consists of Bangladesh, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and India. The Nepali men's team did not participate in Hangzhou. In Hangzhou, India defeated Iran 33–29 to win gold. For Asian Games preparations, the Nepali men's kabaddi team left for Haryana, India on Thursday. The Nepal Kabaddi Association stated that Nepal will train there for more than a month.
