Nepal’s oldest gym, Nepal Vyayam Mandir, which has been relaunched in a new format, was inaugurated on Thursday by Sunita Dangol, Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Established in 1953 BS under the name Youth Organization and later relocated from Khichapokhari and Bhurungkhel to Jyaatha, the Vyayam Mandir has been relaunched in a new format to address contemporary health and fitness needs.
Modern exercise machines and equipment worth over 10 million rupees have been installed in the gym through the Chinese institution ‘Fitness Choice’. In the new format, separate steam rooms, sauna baths, and cardio stations have been constructed for men and women, along with separate restrooms. With these newly added facilities, the Mandir has stated that up to 80 to 100 people can exercise at the gym in a single shift.
In addition to regular gym sessions, arrangements have been made for various other sports activities at the Vyayam Mandir, including Zumba, special yoga classes, and kickboxing training.
According to Narayan Pradhan, President of Nepal Vyayam Mandir, the gym will be open from 6 am to 8 pm during winter and from 5 am to 9 pm during summer.
