The ticket price for the Taplejung Gold Cup football tournament has been increased threefold.
Spectators watching this year's tournament, which will be held at the Bhanu Jana Mavi ground in the district headquarters, Phungling, from Bhadra 12 to 19, will have to purchase tickets for the four games of the opening round, i.e. the quarter-finals, at a rate of 300 rupees per person. The organizers have stated that it will cost 1,200 rupees for one person to watch all the games of the quarter-finals.

The semi-finals have been charged 500 rupees per person. The two semi-finals will cost 1,000 rupees. The final has been fixed at 1,000 rupees, informed Sagar Maden, chairman of the organizing committee of Lakhejatra. According to the list he provided, it will cost 3,200 rupees for one person to watch the entire tournament. Maden has stated that 3,000 rupees will be charged for buying tickets in the package. Last year, the first round of four matches cost Rs 100 each, the semi-finals cost Rs 200 and the finals cost Rs 250. One person had to spend Rs 1,050.
In the competition organized on the occasion of Lakhejathra, bamboo parapets are being made for the spectators. There is also a permanent parapet made of wood and cement. The preparations for the competition have begun, informed Dawa Sherpa, treasurer of the committee. Now, tickets will be sold in packages. Last year, the organizers had awarded a contract of Rs 2 million for ticket sales.
This year, last year's winners Sahlesh Youth Club Siraha, Phidim Sporting Club Panchthar, Jhapa-11 Football Club, Chitlang FC Kathmandu, Satdobato Youth Club Lalitpur and the organizers have already been finalized. Now, the organizers have said that the finalization of the two teams will take place within a week.
The organizers have said that discussions are underway to increase the prize money this year. Last year's winner received 700,000 and the runner-up 350,000, along with a trophy, medal and certificate.
The organizing committee of Lakhejathra has estimated that the cost of running the competition will be 990 lakhs. The competition has been held since 2029 BS under various names including Kanchenjungha and Pathibhara on the occasion of the Lakhejathra festival.
