Pokhara Avengers have appointed former Sri Lankan spin wizard Ajantha Mendis as the head coach for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket season.
Mendis has been given the responsibility with the aim of further strengthening the team's cricket structure and building a strong and competitive team.
Pokhara is the only team to not reach the playoffs in the first two seasons of the NPL. Pokhara was coached by India's Rajiv Kumar in the first two seasons of the NPL. The third edition of the NPL is expected to be held after Dashain.
Mendis has taken 70 wickets in 19 Tests, 152 wickets in 87 One-Day Internationals and 66 wickets in 39 Twenty20 Internationals for Sri Lanka with the help of his mysterious off-spin. He has taken 5 or more wickets in a single match 4 times in Test cricket and 3 times in T20 Internationals. He also has experience playing in the Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League, Bangladesh Premier League, and Big Bash League.
Pokhara Avengers General Manager Amit Lohani said in a statement that he is confident that Mendis' leadership skills, technical expertise, and international experience will take the team's overall performance to new heights.
