Cricketer Dipendra Singh Airi and Kabaddi player Manmati Bista have been named Sportsperson of the Year at the 7th SPA Sudurpaschim Sports Awards.
Dipendra and Manmati were named the best in the men's and women's categories at the awards ceremony organized by the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum Kailali on Friday.
Weightlifter Ashok Bhandari and national cricket team fast bowler Hemant Dhami were nominated for the men's category, while visually impaired cricketer Poonam Chaudhary and football player Meena Deuba were nominated for the women's category.
Similarly, Kabaddi's Bishnu Dutta Bhatta and Athletics' Young Player of the Year Vikram Nath won the awards. Sudurpaschim Icon Ashok Bhandari of weightlifting was named the men's category and Pooja Saud of athletics was named the women's category.
Cricketer Sher Malla won the Special Award, while the Lifetime Achievement Award was given posthumously to Suresh Hamal. The main sponsor of the
award was the Sudurpaschimanchal Academy (SPA), while the Sudurpaschim Province Sports Council supported it as the main promoter.
