Argentina beat Jordan 3-1 in Group J of the 2026 World Cup on Sunday, while  Austria and Algeria played out a sensational 3-3 draw . The draw meant that both Austria and Algeria advanced to the second round of the competition .

Austria took the lead twice but could not hold on to it. Marko Arnautovic scored for them in the 28th minute and Marcel Sabitzer in the 55th minute. For Algeria, Rafik Belghadi scored in the 45th minute and Riyad Mehraj scored in the 60th minute.

Mehraj scored in second-half injury time to give Algeria the lead . But the game did not stop there and Sasa Kaladzic scored a dramatic third goal for Austria in the sixth minute of injury time . Austria finished second with four points . Algeria finished third with four points.

In another match in the same group, defending champions Argentina defeated Jordan to top the group with nine points from three games. Argentina had already qualified for the next round. Jordan, on the other hand, remained bottom with zero points after three consecutive defeats.

Argentina took the lead in the 19th minute through a free kick by Giovani Le Celso. Lautaro Martinez then scored the second goal from the penalty spot in the 31st minute. Jordan's Musa Al-Tamari pulled one back for Jordan in the 55th minute.

Lionel Messi, who entered the field as a substitute, scored in the 80th minute. With this, Messi's goal tally in this competition has reached six. He has scored in all three matches of the league stage and is at the top of the list of top scorers.
