National women's football team captain Renuka Nagarkote was honored with the Best Women's Football Player Award on Saturday.
Young Star Foundation had awarded Renuka with the Best Women's Football Player of the Year 2082 along with Rs 100,000.
Young Star Foundation President Mohan Chandra Singh honored Renuka, who is affiliated with APF Club, with the award. The program was hosted by former captain of the Nepali national women's team Anu Lama.
The Foundation, in collaboration with the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF), has been honoring the best women's football players since last year.
The foundation has been honoring one female player every year based on her contribution and performance in domestic women's football, according to the foundation.
Renuka has been a regular in the national team since 2010. She has played 63 matches for the team. She was given the captaincy responsibility in 20 matches.
Renuka, who was honored, said that this honor made her very happy. "I am very happy that this award has been launched to encourage female players. I feel honored to receive this honor. I hope it will inspire me to continue contributing to Nepali football." He said that such awards will motivate them to continue in sports. Last year, Preeti Rai of football received this award.
A book named 'Alpha Sierra Mike' was also released from the same program. The book was written by Mohan Chandra Singh, Chairman of the Foundation. He has highlighted issues related to Nepali aviation, sports, and media sectors through the book. There was a large presence of personalities from the aviation, media, and sports sectors in the program.
