Kathmandu Metropolitan Cup Ward Level Badminton Tournament has started on Friday at the NOC Earthquake Memorial Covered Hall in Dallu Awas, Kathmandu-15.

The event was inaugurated by Ram Kumar KC, Coordinator of the Social Development Committee of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and Ramji Bahadur Shrestha, President of the Nepal Badminton Association.

Coordinator KC said that the Kathmandu Metropolitan Cup is not just a sports tournament but a metropolitan campaign to connect the community through sports, promote a healthy lifestyle, and identify and develop sports talent from the local level. Co-organizer Kathmandu District Badminton Association President Deepak Thapa said that the Kathmandu Metropolitan Cup is the beginning of a long-term campaign to promote unity, participation, and talent development among the wards of Kathmandu through sports.

The tournament, in which 24 out of 32 wards of Kathmandu Metropolitan City are participating, will be contested in three open categories: men's singles, women's singles, and mixed doubles.

In the competition with a total prize money of 282 thousand, the winning players in the men's and women's singles will receive 32 thousand, the second 20 thousand, and the two third-placed players 10 thousand each.

Each player from fifth to eighth place will receive 2 thousand 500 each. In the mixed doubles, the winning pair will receive 40 thousand, the runner-up pair 30 thousand, and the two third-placed pairs will receive 16 thousand each.

On the first day, the league stage matches of the men's singles and women's singles categories were held.
