The final group matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group D have seen the hosts, the United States and Australia, advance to the knockout stages. The United States had already secured their place in the last 32 after beating Paraguay 4-1 in their opening match and Australia in their second match. In the final match of the group stage, Turkey, who had already been eliminated, made a great comeback and defeated the United States 3-2 to secure a consolation win. Arda Guler, Baris Yilmaz and Can Ayhan scored for Turkey. In the other match of the group, Australia and Paraguay played out a goalless draw to share the points. The draw put Australia in second place on goal difference and sent them straight to the knockout stage. Paraguay, who are in third place, remain among the best third-placed teams and still have a mathematical chance of advancing to the next round. The United States, the group winners, will now face Bosnia and Herzegovina, the third-placed team in Group B, for a place in the last 16.
