Switzerland, fueled by two goals from substitute Johann Manzambi, defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
The Swiss team has collected four points from two matches in Group ‘B’ and has strengthened its chances of entering the knockout stage. Bosnia has not won its second match in a row. In the previous match, Switzerland was held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar and Bosnia by Canada.
Both teams were not able to create much good chances in Los Angeles. But the substitutions made by Switzerland after the hydration break in the second half changed the game.
Johann Manzambi gave Switzerland the lead in the 74th minute. He had entered the field just three minutes earlier. Manzambi converted the ball after the Bosnian defender tried to clear it.
Bosnian defender Tarik Muharremovic was shown a red card as the last man after bringing down Switzerland's Brill Embolo outside the penalty area. The Swiss team took full advantage of that.
Another substitute Ruben Vargas scored Switzerland's second goal in the 84th minute. Manzambi scored Switzerland's third goal in the 90th minute. Ermin Mahmudzic pulled one back for Bosnia in the third minute of injury time.
Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka scored the fourth goal from the penalty spot in the final minute.
