Mexico first team to reach knockout stage

Mexico qualified for the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup on Friday. The co-hosts also became the first team to reach the knockout stages. Mexico secured a place in the top two after defeating South Korea 1-0 in Group A. The win gave Mexico six points from two games. Defeated South Korea is in second place with three points. Despite the defeat, South Korea still has a chance of advancing to the next round.

Mexico takes the lead

Mexico took the lead against South Korea early in the second half. Luis Romo took advantage of South Korea's weak defense in the 50th minute to score a goal. With that, Mexico took a 1-0 lead in the game.
