Budhanilkantha Municipality has won the 10th National Women's Open Basketball Tournament.
Budhanilkantha defeated Grandee Stars by a score of 50-37 in the final held at Kirtipur Covered Hall on Friday. Budhanilkantha, who took the lead from the beginning, took a 27-13 lead at halftime. After that, even though Grandee Stars tried to come back, the initial lead proved decisive in Budhanilkantha's victory. Budhanilkantha performed 13-6, 14-7, 13-14, 10-10.
Budhanilkantha defeated Sunsari Basketball and Grandee Stars defeated ISA Nepal in the semifinals.
Budhanilkantha's Urja Rana Magar was declared the Player of the Match in the final. The winner, Budhanilkantha, received a trophy along with Rs 50,000. Runner-up Grande Stars received a prize of Rs 30,000.
Similarly, Anusa Malla of the champion team was declared the Most Valuable Player (MVP). She received Rs 10,000 in cash. Sunsari, which became the emerging team, also received Rs 10,000. The emerging player of the team participating from outside the valley was Nirviti Sharma of Annapurna Basketball. She received Rs 5,000.
Eight teams, including three from outside the valley, competed in the competition organized by the Nepal Basketball Association (NEBA).
The Basketball Association has stated that this competition is also the basis for selecting the national team for the Saba Women's Basketball Championship.
The winning players were awarded by National Sports Council member Sikka Suwal Shrestha, Nepal Olympic Committee General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha, Nepal Basketball Association President Bhim Singh Gurung, among others.
