Three national swimmers, including Irvin Shrestha, have alleged that the selection for the Asian Games was rigged and have demanded a re-selection.

They have demanded an immediate correction, saying that the act of converting the pre-qualification into qualification overnight as per the prior notification is illegal and against the rules of the game.

At a press conference held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, swimmer Irvin alleged that there was a big conspiracy in publishing a notice without a seal and signature and converting the so-called pre-qualification into qualification after more than half of the games were over. He demanded an investigation into the use of wristwatches without taking time using modern technology in the heats of the pre-qualification.

The Nepal Swimming Association organized the third Nepal Aquatic Championship on 23 and 24 Jestha. Player Irvin said that the information was published as pre-qualification, but it was manipulated into a qualification on the pretext of delay in selecting players. He also said that they had reached the Supreme Court with evidence. He said, ‘We hope that the esteemed Supreme Court will provide justice.’

Japan, the organizer of the 20th Asian Games, has given time until Ashad 17 to send the names of players, stating that it is not too late, and he said that the swimming association still has an opportunity to correct its mistakes and weaknesses.

National swimming player Medhavi KC said that they are moving forward legally for justice.

Swimming coach Megh Lama said that the game schedule keeps changing and the delay in making the information public will affect the players’ preparations.

Irvin’s guardian Maheshwar Shrestha said that the concerned body should take the unnecessary obstacles in the way of fulfilling the objectives that the players have worked hard to achieve seriously. He requested the swimming association to correct the error by playing according to the rules.
