Cape Verde, who are playing their first World Cup, have made a historic result by holding former champions Spain to a goalless draw.

African nation Cape Verde showed bravery on Monday at the 67,000-capacity Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, USA, to keep Spain in a goal drought.

The world's third-smallest nation held European champions Spain to a goalless draw. This is seen as an unexpected result in World Cup history. Cape Verde's 40-year-old goalkeeper Vojinha made an excellent save and gave his team a great result.

Spain, who are considered contenders in this year's World Cup, entered the field without winger duo Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams and Dani Olmo. Yamal and Williams did not play in the playing 11 because they could not recover from hamstring injuries. In their absence, Spain was unable to mount a good attack.

Yamal came on the field after a hydration break in the second half and brought a burst of energy to Spain's attack, but Cape Verde's formidable defense blunted their attacks.
