Record five-time winners Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in their opening Group C match at the 2026 World Cup. Morocco took the lead in the 21st minute through Ismail Saberi. But it was short-lived, with Vinicius Junior equalising for Brazil in the 32nd minute. Neither team could find the back of the net after that, with both sides settling for a point each.
Morocco, led by Mohamed Ouhabi, who has been in excellent form recently, gave five-time world champions Brazil a strong first-half challenge.
Despite Brazil having 54 percent possession, Morocco created more chances to score than Brazil. Morocco had 12 shots on goal, while Brazil had only six. Similarly, two Brazilian players, Casemiro and Roger Ibanez, have received yellow cards, while Morocco has not received any cards so far.
Brazil will face a strong team Morocco in their first match of Group C without Neymar. After Neymar was injured, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti rested star player Neymar for the first match against Morocco. Ancelotti has given Brazil's attack responsibility to Brentford forward Igor Thiago and Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior.
This match is expected to be the most closely contested match of the league stage of this World Cup. Today's match will be held at MetLife Stadium, where the team faces Morocco, an African team that reached the semi-finals in the last World Cup.
