The US Embassy in Nepal organized ‘Goal USA 2026’ in Kathmandu on Friday to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence and the excitement of the FIFA World Cup. The event featured the participation of top young soccer players from across Nepal. ‘Goal! USA 2026’ included a soccer skills challenge competition in Biratnagar, Surkhet, Bhairahawa, and Pokhara, in which hundreds of young players participated. The competition provided them with an opportunity to develop team spirit and leadership. The top performers from various cities competed in the national finals held in Kathmandu. The finals also included a friendly soccer match between young players, famous sports celebrities, and US Embassy staff. The event is part of the ‘Freedom 250’ campaign to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence. It also reflected the growing excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Before the game, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Nepal Scott Arbom said, “Goal! USA reflects the long-standing friendship between the United States and Nepal. We are proud to share that excitement with the youth of Nepal and strengthen ties between our two communities as the United States prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
The embassy said the tournament has served as an important means of connecting the sports community, inspiring youth leadership, and strengthening partnerships.
