Cricketers Shakti Gauchan and Hari Thapa are set to compete for the post of president of the Rupandehi Cricket Association for the new term. The association will get a new leadership on Monday itself.

Thapa is competing for the post of president for the second term. Gauchan was defeated along with Thapa in the election held four years ago. This is the second time the two are competing. Thapa claims that the efforts to select a leader by consensus have been in vain. ‘We once asked Shaktiji to come after having experience in any position except the chairman of the working committee,’ Thapa said, ‘but, he tried to take the leadership directly.’ He said that efforts to reach a consensus are being made till the end.

Gauchan said that he had already led Nepal’s international team and had achieved success and that he wanted to take the leadership of Rupandehi district cricket one day. ‘I have devoted my life to cricket,’ he said, ‘I have a dream of leading Rupandehi cricket to great heights.’

The Thapa and Gauchan factions have formed their own teams and are preparing for the election competition. Sanjeev Joshi has announced his candidacy for the post of vice-president, Pratham Parajuli for the post of secretary, and Satyajit Sarkar for the post of treasurer from the Gauchan faction. Khelraj Bhusal has announced his candidacy for the post of vice-president from the Thapa faction.
