Judo players Praveen Diyali, Raju Sharma and Monika Chaudhary won gold medals in the second open judo competition on Saturday. All three gold medalists in the three-event competition are from the army.

In the men's under 73 kg final held at the Multipurpose Martial Arts Center (MMAC) hall in Khushibun, Praveen defeated Subodh Mandal of the host academy. Tara Bahadur Bhujel and Anil Balami of the Army came third.

In the men's under 100 kg final, Raju defeated Tanjin Dorji of Tri Force Judo Club, Bhutan. APF's Binosha Chalune and Army's Dhirendra Kumar Tharu came third.

In the women's under 57 kg, Monica defeated Army's Parbati Acharya in the final. Pema Yangji Sherpa of Palm Judo Club and Sunita Thing of APF won bronze. The first placer in all three events received Rs 5,000, the second placer Rs 3,000 and the third placer Rs 2,000 in cash along with a gift hamper.

The winner was awarded by Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Toru Maeda, Director of the organizing academy Saroj Maharjan and others. Director Maharjan said that 52 players from 11 teams, including three departmental teams (Army, APF and Police), and 2 clubs from Bhutan, are participating in the one-day competition.
