Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel has said that the provincial government is committed to the construction of a permanent cricket ground in Birendranagar.
Inaugurating the Under-19 National Women's Cricket Tournament on Friday, he said that infrastructure construction has been given priority as the youth's interest in cricket is increasing. 'The grounds where games are being played are temporary in nature, we will build a well-equipped cricket ground in collaboration with CAN and the provincial government,' Kandel said, 'The government has focused on infrastructure construction with the aim of making Karnali a sports hub.'
Chief Minister Kandel said that although Karnali is in a state of preparation to host the 10th National Games, the tournament could not be held on time due to the federal government. 'We are fully prepared, but the tournament is being delayed due to the central government,' he said.
He also alleged that the federal government has been continuously neglecting Karnali in budget allocation. The winning team of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 500,000 and the runner-up team will receive Rs 300,000.
In the individual category, the best player will be awarded Rs 40,000, the best batter will be awarded Rs 25,000, the best bowler will be awarded Rs 25,000 and the 'Player of the Match' of each match will be awarded Rs 3,000 each.
