Gandaki Province has set a new junior national record in the 4x400m student relay in the athletics section of the 16th President's Running Shield Games.

Atit Thapa, Aryan Rana Magar, Ankit Ranabhat and Sudip Bhandari of Gandaki set a record by covering the prescribed distance in 3 minutes 27.9 seconds at the Dashrath Stadium. Earlier, the record of 3 minutes 30.9 seconds was in the name of Pravin Rana Magar, Hast Sunar, Neeraj Shah and Sant Bahadur Darai of Bagmati. They had set the record in the last edition.

The Bagmati team of Supres Adhikari, Neeraj Shah, Hast Sunar and Sachin Thing came second in a time of 3 minutes 30.7 seconds while breaking the record set in the last edition. Suresh Chaudhary, Chitra Bahadur KC, Biraj Sunar and Barun Dutt Rana of Sudurpaschim came third. In the same category, the team of Suruchi Moktan, Anisha Tharu, Bhagwati Khadka and Sharmila Bik from Bagmati won the girls' event. The team completed the prescribed distance in 4 minutes 18.1 seconds. The team of Anuja Chaudhary, Roshni Kami, Karishma Khadka and Durga Bik from Lumbini Province came second and the team of Usha Chaudhary, Vijaya Chataut, Swastika Shah and Kamal Jaisi from Sudurpaschim came third.

In the boys' long jump, Bikram Nath from Sudurpaschim won. He jumped 6.60 meters. Bagmati's Dipendra Giri and Vishal Gurung came third. In the girls' event, Anisha Tharu from Bagmati won the gold medal with a jump of 5.08 meters. Usha Chaudhary from Sudurpaschim came second and Garima Chaudhary from Lumbini came third.

In the boys' javelin throw, Lokesh Airi from Sudurpaschim won the gold medal. He threw 56.32 meters. Amit Tharu of Lumbini won silver and Sohail Mansoli of Koshi won bronze. In the girls' event, Pooja Saud of Sudurpaschim won gold with a throw of 35.42 meters. Umita Rai of Koshi won silver and Sarita Shah of Karnali won bronze.

Hasta Sunar of Bagmati won the male 800-meter race. He took 2 minutes 00.2 seconds. Suman Sunar of Karnali won silver and Sachin Kurmi of Lumbini won bronze. In the girls' event, Bhagwati Khadka of Bagmati won first with a time of 2 minutes 22.1 seconds. Swastika Shah of Sudurpaschim came second and Asma Adhikari of Gandaki came third.

Two gold medals were decided on the first day of taekwondo on Thursday. The gold medal in the boys' single poomsae was decided at the hall of the Taekwondo Academy in Satdobato.

Sachin Bik of Gandaki was the winner in the boys' category. He scored 7.416 points. Jesusu Khatri of Bagmati came second, and Leshan Rai of Koshi and Asid Dadel of Lumbini Province came third.

Yumi Rai of Koshi won the gold in the girls' category, scoring 7.466 points. Pratiksha Rana of Gandaki won the silver, and Shubhashree Shrestha of Bagmati and Sanskriti Gurung of Lumbini won the bronze. The finals of the remaining 10 events in the competition will be held on Friday.
