The third edition of the Asian E-Learning Jayakumar Nath Shah Memorial U-16 Inter-School Cricket Tournament began on Tuesday.
The tournament was inaugurated by Nepal Olympic Committee General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha and Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) Secretary Paras Khadka.
On the first day, six matches were played on three grounds. DAV Sushil Kedia defeated Nexus School by 193 runs at the Upper Mulpani Cricket Ground. Chasing a target of 242 runs set by DAV, Nexus was bowled out for 48 runs in 12.4 overs. DAV's Keshav Agarwal and Tanish Shah took 3 wickets each. DAV scored 241 runs for the loss of 2 wickets with the help of Kamal Shahi's unbeaten 99, Aarus Jha's 56 and Prasidh Jaisi's 40 runs.
Sainik Amavi defeated Triyog UMavi by 122 runs at the same ground. Chasing a target of 187 runs, Triyoga was all out for 64 runs in 10.3 overs. Anish Khadka scored 27 runs but could not lead the team to victory. Roshan Tiwari took 4 and Aman Mishra took 3 wickets for Sainik. Rajdeep Acharya scored an unbeaten 115 runs in 67 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes as Sainik scored 186 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Galaxy Public defeated Himalayan Whitehouse IB World School by 90 runs at the Tallo Mulpani Cricket Ground. Chasing a target of 144 runs, Whitehouse was bowled out for 53 runs in 16.1 overs. Galaxy's Mingma Tamang took 3 wickets and Sanket Rijal took 2 wickets. Galaxy scored 143 runs for the loss of 6 wickets from Sanket's 33 runs.
Api School defeated Angels Heart by 8 runs at the same ground. Angels Heart, who were set a target of 128 runs, could only score 127 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Meanwhile, in Kirtipur, Mokshada School defeated Wisdom Academy by 123 runs. Chasing a target of 165 runs, Wisdom was bowled out for 41 runs in 9.4 overs. Mokshada's Gautam Kumar Patel took 7 wickets for the loss of 4 runs. Earlier, Mokshada had scored 164 runs for the loss of 6 wickets with the help of Sansraya Shrestha's 56 and Aaron Giri's 36 runs.
In the next match, Akshara defeated Ratna Rajya Mavi by 6 wickets in the Duckworth-Lewis method. In a rain-affected match, Ratna Rajya scored 84 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 16 overs. Akshara, who were chasing a target of 85 runs, was declared the winner in the DL after rain affected their innings in 7.1 overs.
A total of 24 teams are participating in the competition organized by the Kathmandu District Cricket Association and will run until 25 Jestha. The main sponsor of the competition is Asian E-Learning Pvt. Ltd. and the co-sponsor is E-Sewa.
