Morang and Jhapa have made a great start in athletics on the first day of the 16th provincial-level President's Running Shield competition being organized by the Provincial Sports Development Board Koshi Province.

In the competition held at Itahari Stadium, Mandira Mahatara of Morang won gold, Anisha Thapa of Dhankuta won silver, and Aruna Limbu of Tehrathum won bronze medals in the girls' 1500-meter race. Amir Limbu of Taplejung won gold, Samir Angdembe of Panchthar won silver, and Gunaraj Dahal of Okhaldhunga won bronze medals in the boys' 1500-meter race. Binisha Rijal of Morang won gold, Sangeeta Rasaili of Jhapa won silver, and Asmita Lamgade of Jhapa won bronze medals in the girls' 100-meter race.

In the boys' 100-meter race, Subash Darji of Jhapa won the gold medal, Nitesh Gachhadar of Sunsari won the silver medal, and Subek Thapa of Morang won the bronze medal. Similarly, in the boys' shot put throw, David Limbu of Dhankuta won the gold medal, Dilip Limbu of Taplejung won the silver medal, and Dinesh Pariyar of Tehrathum won the bronze medal. In the girls' shot put throw, Simran Rai of Jhapa won the gold medal, Susmita Sibu of Panchthar won the silver medal, and Manisha Rai of Sankhuwasabha won the bronze medal.

Earlier, the competition organized by the Koshi Province Sports Development Board on Sunday was inaugurated by Indramani Parajuli, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province. Biplav Ghosh, Member-Secretary of the Koshi Province Sports Development Board, informed that 1,700 players from all 14 districts of Koshi Province are participating in the competition.

Players selected from the competition to be held in six disciplines - athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo and wushu - will be able to compete in the national competition to be held in Kathmandu. Ghosh said that the best 115 players and officials selected from the selection competition that will conclude on Monday will be sent off to Kathmandu on the same day.

The National Sports Council (NSC) has stated that more than 660 players from all seven provinces will participate in the central-level 16th President's Running Shield Sports Competition to be held in Kathmandu from Jestha 20 to 22.
