Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya has said that the Gauritar Stadium in Hetauda will now be developed as an international-level sports center.

Chief Minister Baniya said this while inaugurating the cricket ground constructed at the Gauritar Stadium on Sunday amidst a ceremony. ‘The government has included it in the policy program to take it forward as a pride project as it is the identity and pride of the province,’ he said. ‘Special arrangements will be made in the budget of the upcoming fiscal year to complete the construction of the cricket stadium.’

He said that the provincial government’s goal is to make the cricket ground more organized, build a parapet and complete it within the coming year. He also said that the stadium will be made multipurpose by building infrastructure such as a health deck and a synthetic track along with the cricket ground.

At the program, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Secretary Paras Khadka said that the Gauritar Cricket Stadium in Hetauda will be made the cricket 'hub' of Bagmati Province. Speaking at the inauguration program, Khadka said that the construction of the Gauritar Stadium is a historic moment for the cricket sector.

'Bagmati Province has got its own cricket stadium for the first time.' Which is a matter of joy for all the players,' he said, 'The provincial government should arrange the necessary budget to make it international standard and organize big tournaments here.' CAN will also send the necessary proposal from the local level.'

The construction of the cricket stadium at Gauritar Stadium was completed last April. The stadium, which was taken forward as a pride project by the provincial government, has a cricket stadium with five pitches according to international standards, said Deepak Lama, member-secretary of the Provincial Sports Development Council, Bagmati Province.

The construction of the ground, which was started two years ago, has cost Rs 117.4 million. The SNS-PL-HKC JV was awarded the contract for the construction of the ground on Chaitra 20, 2080. The ground has a playing field of 70 meters radius (140 meters diameter). A modern underground drainage system has been installed in it, and quality 'Bermuda dubo' has been installed on the ground. Currently, a 600-capacity parapet, VVIP room, player changing room, media room, television and radio broadcasting room, and disabled-friendly structures have been constructed. Along with the cricket ground, structures including a football field and swimming pool are being constructed in the Gauritar stadium premises. Plans have also been put forward to start the construction of a lawn tennis court, motor racing track, and football training ground within the current fiscal year. The provincial government has allocated a budget of Rs 80 million for this in the current year.
