Iran has won the Kavha Women's Volleyball Championship for the second time in a row.

Iran defended its title by defeating Kazakhstan 3-1 in the championship final at the Rakhep Covered Hall in Tripureshwor on Friday. This is the second time Iran has defeated Kazakhstan in this championship. The team had won the group stage in straight sets.

After becoming the champion on Nepali soil, Iran had succeeded in the final in sets of 25-18, 19-25, 25-15, 25-21.

Last year in Tashkent, Iran had won the title by defeating host Uzbekistan in straight sets. Kazakhstan is the first team to participate in this championship.

Host Nepal has also lost the third place in the championship. The Nepali team was defeated by arch-rival India in a set of 3-1 in the third place match on Friday.

Nepal and India were fighting for third place after losing the semi-finals. Nepal, which had lost the first two sets, came back in the third set but could not maintain it. Nepal lost the match 22-25, 23-25, 25-15, 22-25. This defeat did not fulfill the dream of the Nepali team to reach the Asia Cup. Nepal, which was in the same group as India in the league stage, lost the match 3-2.

Nepal, captained by Niruta Thagunna, entered the competition with young players. Nepal coach Jagdish Bhatta said that although they could not achieve concrete success in the championship, the young players got the opportunity to gain international match experience on home soil.

He said, "We entered with more than half of the new players, they got good match experience. Since we were on home soil, our goal was high, but we could not achieve that." We have learned a lot from the top-level competitors. The performance of the new young players has been satisfactory.’

Iran’s Fatem Khalili Chermahini was named the Most Valuable Player of the Championship. Along with Khalili as the first outside spiker, Kazakhstan’s Kristina Belova, Kazakhstan’s second outside spiker, Iran’s Elahe Poursaleh Shahdesari as the opposite spiker, India’s Shilpa Sindhu as the middle blocker, Kazakhstan’s Yulia Fomenko as the middle blocker, Iran’s Shabnam Alikhani as the setter, and India’s Sathi Das as the libero.
