Nepal's young players have performed excellently in the YTTM Table Tennis Championship organized under the Yang Yong Ja Table Tennis Mission (YTTM) International Training Camp held in Incheon, South Korea from May 16-26.
According to Jackie Maharjan, treasurer of the All Nepal Table Tennis Association, young player Yongi Poudel won first place in the U-19 category. She was presented with the award by 1988 Olympic gold medalist and famous South Korean table tennis player Yang Yong Ja. Yodgi received 15,000, table tennis rubber and other sports equipment as a prize.
The team consisting of Rijan Shakya, Rivanmuni Vajracharya, Prajna Maharjan and Surmya Shakya of the Nepali team won first place in the team event. The winning team was awarded 40,000 along with table tennis rubber and other sports equipment.
Rivanmuni and Prajna Maharjan participated in the U-13 category, Rijan Shakya and Surmya Shakya in the U-16 category, and Himal Bista and Yongi Poudel in the U-19 category. Hanna Ko was the team manager.
During the training, the players also visited the National Training Center in South Korea. During the observation, they had the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with national-level players from Korea.
The training camp was led by Yang Yong-ja herself. The participating players had the opportunity to receive direct training from her and her coaching team.
The competition was attended by trainee players from various countries including Nepal, the Philippines, Laos, and Mongolia. Team manager Hanna Ko informed that a total of 150 players participated in the competition. The team of Nepali players is returning to Nepal on Tuesday.
