Salyam Sharma has won the third Mayor's Cup Open Blitz Rating Chess Tournament organized by JCI Patan. Salyam, who became the winner after beating a total of 142 participating players, received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
FM Kshitij Bhandari came second, Suman Lama came third, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha came fourth and CM Nabin Tandukar came fifth. Similarly, Phurba Lama, Badrilal Nepali, Mission Dahal, AIM Abhik Shah and Sandesh Shrestha came sixth to tenth respectively.
In the category awards, Prashant Gurung came first and Sandesh Limbu came second in the Best Unrated category. Glossy Shrestha came first and Sanam Shrestha came second in the Women's category, while Sulabh Panthi came first and Shyambabu Shah came second in the Best Pavilion category.
In the U-16 group, Harshvardhan Rathi came first and Shubham Joshi came second. Satvikman Tuladhar came first and Oscar Panthi came second in the U-14 group, Shrestha Sahas and Mainali Dipan came second in the U-12 group, and Riyanshu Poudel and Ayam Subedi came second in the U-10 group.
Kabindra Siwakoti came first and Lekhraj Bhattarai came second in the under 1700 group. Purnaraj Khadka came first and Punyaman Karmacharya came second in the veteran group. A total of Rs 56,000 in cash prizes were distributed, the organizer said. JCI Patan said the competition was organized with the aim of developing chess, encouraging young talent and expanding intellectual sports culture.
The competition was organized on the premises of Patan High School. Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan presented cash prizes, medals, trophies and certificates to the winning players.
