A 9-member Nepali team, including 7 players, is set to leave for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Tuesday to participate in the 27th Asian Gyarogi Taekwondo Championship.

3 men and 4 women from Nepal will participate in the competition, which is also a selection for the 20th Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Sumit Bista (under 58 kg), Sahil Sunuwar (under 63 kg) and Abhishek Baral (under 80 kg) will compete in the competition to be held from 5 to 11 Jestha. Santoshi Rai (under 46 kg), Geeta Kathayat (under 53 kg), Shubhangi Shrestha (under 57 kg) and Sonia Gaire (under 49 kg) will compete in the women's competition. There is a provision for players who reach the quarterfinals to be selected for the Asian Games. Nepal's game will be held from 7 Jestha.

Purna Kumar Yonjan, Saeed Hassan Reje and Sandipa Amgain are the coaches of the team.

The Nepali team that will participate in the 9th Asian Poomsae Taekwondo Competition to be held in Ulaanbaatar has already reached Mongolia. Yuvraj Rana Magar and Swastika Tamang will compete in the competition, which is a selection competition for the Asian Games.

Similarly, the 4-member Para Taekwondo team, including two players, that will compete in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Taekwondo Selection Competition, has also been bid farewell.

The team is scheduled to leave for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Friday. Amir Bloun, male under 63 kg, and Renu Tamang, female under 47 kg, will compete in the K-44 category of the competition to be held on May 26. Kabiraj Negi Lama is the coach and Ramchandra Shrestha is the manager.

The players who will play in the final will be eligible to participate in the Asian Para Games to be held in Japan. Palesha Gobardhan has been selected for the Asian Para Games based on her ranking in the women's 57 kg under K-44 category, according to coach Lama. Palesha is ranked 10th in the world.

Before that, they will participate in the 11th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship to be held in Ulaanbaatar on May 26. Palesha will also play in this competition along with Amir and Renu. Palesha, who is studying in China, will go to Ulaanbaatar from there.

National Sports Council (NSC) member secretary Ramcharitra Mehta and former NSC executive committee member Bhan Bahadur Chand bid farewell to both teams on Monday.
